FAQ

When should I bring my child in for a consultation?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children receive their first orthodontic evaluation around seven years old. Fortunately, most children will not need early treatment and can wait until they are older to receive treatment if desired. However, there are some orthodontic problems that can cause bigger issues down the road if not treated early. We recommend scheduling a free consultation to determine if your child has any dental issues that need to be addressed early.

Do you take my insurance?

We are currently an out-of-network provider with all insurance carriers. You will be asked for insurance information prior to your first visit so that we can verify your insurance benefits. If your insurance offers orthodontic coverage, our staff is happy to submit a claim and bill your insurance on your behalf.

Am I too old for braces?

No! At Sytek Ortho, we believe everyone deserves a smile they can be proud of. Adults tend to have different priorities and concerns than our adolescent patients and we strive to create treatment plans that fit your goals and lifestyle. Schedule your free consultation to determine your treatment options for creating the smile of your dreams.

Are braces expensive?

We recognize that achieving a straight smile is an investment, therefore, Sytek Ortho has partnered with OrthoFi to make financing orthodontic treatment simple and easy. OrthoFi will process and verify insurance benefits and help generate custom payment plans that best fit your unique situation. If you’d like to learn more, new patient consultations are always free!

What can I expect at my first appointment?

During your first visit, our friendly staff members will greet you and make sure we have all of the necessary information on file for your patient record. We will then take a complete set of photos and x-rays and complete a smile examination to identify your unique treatment needs. During the consultation, Dr. Sytek will discuss your concerns, your treatment options, and answer any questions you may have about your treatment plan. If you feel our office is a good fit for you, our treatment coordinator will help guide you through the next steps for starting treatment! These appointments typically last about one hour.

Do braces hurt?

Moderate discomfort is common during the first week after appliances are placed and for a couple days after each adjustment. Orthodontic discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®) or ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®) and eating a soft diet until the discomfort subsides.  Sharp pain caused by pokey wires can be alleviated using wax until you can be seen for a comfort visit during normal business hours.

How often will I have to come to the office?

Depending on whether you have traditional braces or Invisalign, you can expect to visit our office every 4-16 weeks to monitor progress and make adjustments in order to finish treatment in a timely manner. If you do not currently have an appointment scheduled, please call our office!

Can I still see my dentist while I have braces?

Yes! Routine dental care is very important, especially while in braces, to keep your smile in top shape for reveal day. Whenever necessary, we will coordinate appointments with your dentist so he or she can do their best work and get you back on track to a beautiful and healthy smile.

What do I do if I have an orthodontic emergency?

Fortunately, true orthodontic emergencies are rare and most issues can be managed at home until normal business hours. If you need help managing an orthodontic issue outside of business hours, simply call our main office phone number, 989.340.0671, for further instructions.
